Vidor Police Officers Save Children from Blazing House Fire
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, two Vidor Police officers were hailed as heroes for their courageous act of rescuing two children from a devastating house fire. The children, aged 7 and 9, were saved thanks to the swift actions of the officers.
Chief Rod Carroll of the Vidor Police department commended the officers for their bravery in responding to the fire at 1:49 a.m. in the 900 block of Pin Oak St. Upon arrival, the officers, Michael Stephenson and Ashton Moss, were informed by the children’s mother that her sons were trapped in the front bedroom of the engulfed mobile home.
Stephenson’s bodycam footage captured the heart-stopping moments as he rushed to the window and managed to rescue the children in a mere 34 seconds. Despite the intense heat and flames, the officers successfully pulled the boys to safety, preventing a tragic outcome.
The fire department later arrived at the scene and praised the officers for their quick response, emphasizing that without their intervention, the children might not have survived. The closed door of the bedroom played a crucial role in protecting the boys from the smoke and toxic gases during the fire.
Both children were taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and were thankfully released after receiving medical care. The entire ordeal serves as a harrowing reminder of the selfless dedication of first responders who put their lives on the line to save others.
