SALT LAKE CITY — Zach Edey, the former Purdue star, made his NBA Summer League debut with the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night, and he did not disappoint. Despite concerns about his mobility and outside shooting, Edey showcased his skills with an impressive performance that included 14 points, 15 rebounds, four blocked shots, and a game-saving tip-in at the buzzer.

Locked On Grizzlies host DaMichael Cole praised Edey for his standout performance against tough competition, noting that he outperformed the Utah Jazz’s starting center, Walker Kessler, who is entering his third NBA season.

According to Cole, “Edey had more points and rebounds than Kessler, proving that he belongs at the NBA level.”

Edey showed versatility on both ends of the floor, demonstrating that he can contribute in ways other than posting up in the paint. His abilities as a rim protector and his willingness to set screens and crash the offensive glass make him a valuable asset for Memphis.

Although Edey may face challenges in pick-and-roll defense, the Grizzlies have the flexibility to rotate him with Jaren Jackson Jr and Brandon Clarke to mitigate any weaknesses.

As one of the standouts in a perceived weak draft class, Edey has proven that he deserves his top-ten pick status. While it’s still early in the season, his promising start in Memphis bodes well for his future in the league.
