The Houston Astros faced a setback in their quest for the division title as they fell to the Seattle Mariners 6-1 on Monday night, keeping their magic number at two.
Unfortunately, the Astros will have to navigate the rest of the series without their top home run and RBI producer, Yordan Alvarez. Manager Joe Espada confirmed that Alvarez sustained a right knee sprain in the previous game against the Angels and will be unavailable for the remaining games against Seattle.
Despite this setback, there is a glimmer of hope as Espada mentioned, “If there’s a chance for him to come back in the regular season, it’s good news.” With Alvarez leading the team in average, home runs, and RBIs, his absence will surely be felt as the Astros aim to clinch their fourth consecutive American League West division title.
Up next, the Astros will look to close out the Mariners with Framber Valdez taking the mound on Tuesday night. Following the series against Seattle, Houston will travel to Cleveland for the final games of the regular season.
