As the fire continues to rage near Spencer Highway in Deer Park, Texas, crews are facing a challenging battle. However, the situation has been somewhat stabilized by the calm winds in the area, which is helping to contain the fire and improve air quality, according to KHOU 11 meteorologist Pat Cavlin.

The fire, which originated at the Energy Transfer company near the Brookglen neighborhood, is currently only affecting the immediate area. Due to the lack of wind, the smoke is rising straight up into the atmosphere without spreading to surrounding neighborhoods.

While Harris County pollution control is monitoring the air quality, firefighters have been able to quickly control a nearby grass fire that was ignited by the flames from the pipeline fire. Efforts are also underway to protect nearby homes from the blaze.

Authorities have issued an evacuation order for around 350 homes near the fire point. San Jacinto College and schools in La Porte ISD are also sheltering in place as a precautionary measure.

Despite the challenging situation, there have been no reports of injuries so far. Emergency responders are working diligently to ensure the safety of residents, including evacuating those in areas affected by power outages caused by the fire.

Spencer Highway and nearby roads have been closed in both directions, and residents are advised to avoid the area. While the situation remains intense, the light winds are aiding firefighters in containing the flames and minimizing the impact on nearby communities.
