As Hurricane Beryl approaches the Texas coast, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has taken charge, issuing emergency declarations for over 120 counties. However, many are left wondering about the whereabouts of Governor Greg Abbott.
While the state faces the impending storm, Governor Abbott is currently overseas in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan, working on business deals worth billions. Despite his absence, he remains in constant communication with Texas emergency management and local officials to ensure preparedness for Hurricane Beryl.
Abbott’s trip is part of an effort to strengthen economic ties with Asian nations and boost Texas’ trade relations. During his visit, he inaugurated the State of Texas Taiwan Office to facilitate trade and investment opportunities between Texas and Taiwan.
The governor’s journey began on Friday and is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, July 13. In his absence, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick will serve as the acting governor of Texas.
