COLUMBIA, S.C. – Excitement is brewing as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance have agreed to a highly anticipated debate on Oct. 1. This matchup of potential vice presidents comes as early voting begins in select states ahead of the general election.

CBS News has extended an invitation to both Vance and Walz for a head-to-head debate in New York City. The proposed dates include Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, and Oct. 8.

The campaigns reacted quickly, with Walz confirming their participation on October 1 and Vance accepting the challenge while throwing in a suggestion for a debate on Sept. 18.

The debate moderators will be “CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan of “Face the Nation”, ensuring a stimulating exchange of ideas.

Leading up to this monumental event, speculation swirled about whether the candidates would engage in a debate. Vance had been vocal about his desire to confront Walz on various issues, even challenging his opponent’s military service background.
