Fort Bend County Recovery Efforts After Hurricane Beryl
Fort Bend County, Texas – Fort Bend County officials provided an update on the recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl. Emergency Management Coordinator Greg Bapst stated that the county is transitioning from emergency mode to recovery mode.
As of Friday, County Judge KP George reported that there are still 52,000 families without power. Residents in need of shelter can find relief at the following locations:
- Fort Bend County Fairgrounds – Building C
- Address: 4310 TX-36 South, Rosenberg, Texas 77471
- Open 24/7 until further notice
- Attack Poverty | Friends of North Rosenberg
- Address: 1908 Avenue E, Rosenberg, Texas 77471
- Open 24/7 until further notice
Residents requiring oxygen can have their bottles refilled at the county fairgrounds shelter, but they must bring their own bottles as the county does not provide them. County buildings will remain closed as conditions are evaluated for reopening.
The risk of carbon monoxide poisoning from generator use remains high, with over 25 calls for carbon monoxide response, leading to 41 patients receiving treatment. The Fort Bend County Fire Marshal’s Office advises keeping generators at least 10 feet away from homes.
Contractors are being contacted to arrange a plan for debris collection, and the county is part of a federal disaster declaration approved by President Joe Biden. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of caution on roads due to malfunctioning street lights.
Residents are encouraged to report damage using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) to aid in the recovery process. Stay updated on KHOU 11’s social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
