The Tragic Loss of Lazar Đukić at the CrossFit Games
Fort Worth, Texas – The 28-year-old Lazar Đukić, a CrossFit athlete from Serbia and the 2024 Europe Semifinal champion, was tragically lost on the first day of the CrossFit Games in Fort Worth, Texas. His brother Luka was also competing alongside him.
At Marine Creek Lake, the site of a run-and-swim event, a body was recovered at approximately 10 a.m. Thursday morning after the Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a drowning call at the location. The body was identified as Lazar Đukić by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.
The event was being live-streamed on ESPN+ and various other platforms when all streams abruptly ended following the incident. The Sevan Podcast, dedicated to covering the CrossFit Games, was streaming their reactions when the swimming event was canceled, indicating a serious situation had occurred.
Đukić was a four-time CrossFit Games athlete and the 2024 Europe Semifinal champion. He had high rankings worldwide, in Europe, and in Serbia. His goal for the CrossFit Games was to podium, and he was competing alongside his brother, Luka. Tragically, Lazar was last seen swimming before the rescue crews recovered his body.
A GoFundMe has been started to support Đukić’s family, raising over $130,000 as of Thursday afternoon. The CrossFit community is mourning the loss of a talented athlete and sending support to his loved ones during this difficult time.
