The tragedy unfolded around 5:03 p.m. when a call came in to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office reporting the collapse of a mobile home that was being leveled. Family members who were working at the site became trapped beneath the structure, prompting a swift response from multiple emergency agencies.
Initial investigations suggest that the collapse may have been caused by the failure of jack equipment, with no leveling company present at the time. Fortunately, it appeared that no one was inside the home when the leveling process was taking place.
Five individuals were rescued from underneath the debris, with four airlifted to hospitals in the Houston area and one person transported by ambulance to a local medical facility. Tragically, a 17-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man did not survive the collapse, prompting a somber mood in the aftermath of the rescue efforts. The rescue team had to resort to using a chainsaw to cut through the home’s floor to reach one of the victims, underscoring the challenges they faced during the operation.
The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the root causes and prevent similar tragedies in the future. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of all those affected by this heartbreaking event.
