Countdown to Election Day: Texas Latino Voters Prefer Harris and Allred
As Election Day approaches with just 49 days left, a recent poll conducted by UnidosUS and BSP Research sheds light on the preferences of Texas Latino voters. According to the poll, Latino voters in Texas favor candidates Kamala Harris and Colin Allred over Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, although a significant number remain undecided.
Hispanic voters play a crucial role in Texas elections, representing the state’s second-largest demographic group and showing high voter turnout rates. In fact, 84% of registered Hispanic voters participated in the 2020 elections, comprising 23% of all voters.
However, a concerning statistic from the poll reveals that 52% of Latino voters in Texas have not been contacted by any campaign, indicating a large opportunity to engage and influence this important voting bloc. The top priorities for Latino voters in the state include inflation, jobs, immigration, healthcare, and issues related to abortion, crime, and guns.
UnidosUS Texas State Director Eric Holguin emphasized the desire of Hispanic Latinos for elected leaders to address their daily challenges with practical solutions. The poll also indicates that a majority of Texas Latino voters believe Democrats are better aligned with their priorities, particularly on issues like healthcare, immigration, and jobs.
Regarding the upcoming election, 57% of Texas Latino voters are leaning towards voting for Vice President Kamala Harris, while 34% support former President Donald Trump. In the Senate race, Rep. Colin Allred has a significant lead over Sen. Ted Cruz among Hispanic voters.
When it comes to immigration policy, most Hispanic voters favor a balanced approach, supporting initiatives like a path to citizenship for Dreamers and efforts to combat drug and human trafficking. On the topic of abortion, a large majority of Latinos in Texas oppose restrictions on abortion rights.
