Congressman Gonzales Urges Lawmakers to Pass Appropriations Bills Now
Congressman Tony Gonzales is questioning why lawmakers can’t seem to pass appropriations bills in a timely manner, instead of waiting until the last minute before Christmas, and even then, there’s no guarantee of success.
In a recent interview on Inside Texas Politics, Congressman Gonzales expressed his frustration with Congress resorting to temporary continuing resolutions (CR) to keep the government funded. He was one of the 82 Republicans who voted against the CR, highlighting the futility of delaying tough budget decisions.
While the CR funds the government at current levels until just before Christmas, additional funds have been allocated for the Secret Service following recent assassination attempts on a political nominee.
Although the CR passed both the Senate and the House, it simply postpones the inevitable budget decisions that lawmakers will have to face after the upcoming election. These ongoing budget battles reflect the deep divisions between Republicans and Democrats.
Congressman Gonzales anticipates further political unrest in the next Congress and emphasizes the need for lawmakers to act as statesmen and work towards unifying the country.
Additionally, Congressman Gonzales discusses legislation he introduced, including the Find and Protect Foster Youth Act, which has been approved and is awaiting the President’s signature. For more details, listen to his entire interview here.
