After 35 years at the helm, Mark Wallace, CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital, has announced his retirement, with his last day set for October 4, 2024. This date marks the anniversary of when Wallace took over as CEO of the organization. The hospital has appointed Debra Sukin, Ph.D., who currently serves as president, as the new CEO starting October 5.

In a recent press release, Wallace expressed his gratitude and excitement for the next chapter in his life. He shared, “I leave with a full heart and deep appreciation for my incredible team. I know that Texas Children’s will only get better and better in the years to come and I will always be cheering this phenomenal organization on from wherever life takes me.”

During Wallace’s tenure, Texas Children’s Hospital underwent significant expansion, including the addition of over 10 million square feet of space, community hospitals in west Houston and The Woodlands, and the integration of the Pavilion for Women into the TCH system. Most recently, the hospital expanded into Austin with a pediatric and women’s hospital earlier this year.

Debra Sukin, the incoming CEO, brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles at Houston Methodist, where she held various executive positions within the healthcare system.

As the leadership transition takes place, Texas Children’s Hospital looks towards a bright future under the guidance of Debra Sukin, while Mark Wallace embarks on a new chapter filled with family, friends, and exciting adventures.
