Support and Relief Efforts Pour in for Hurricane Helene Victims
The aftermath of Hurricane Helene has left a trail of devastation, prompting a wave of support and relief efforts from the Houston-area and beyond. Volunteers and resources from Texas are being deployed to assist those most impacted by the storm.
On Monday, Governor Greg Abbott announced the deployment of emergency generators to Georgia, one of the hardest-hit areas. The Houston Texans also pledged $1 million towards hurricane relief following their victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Non-profit organizations have mobilized to aid those affected by the hurricane. American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast region has sent 20 volunteers to Florida, while Texas A&M’s Task Force 1 dispatched a team to North Carolina for search and rescue operations.
Furthermore, the United Cajun Navy has been delivering food and supplies to isolated areas of North Carolina. Executive Director Jennifer Toby emphasized the dedication of the organization’s Houston-based volunteers in providing assistance.
Mercy Chefs, a non-profit founded in response to Hurricane Katrina, has deployed teams to Florida and North Carolina. CEO Gary LeBlanc highlighted the urgent need for support in devastated communities, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to serving thousands of meals daily.
