SFA Lumberjacks Dominate North American University in Season Opener
SFA hosted North American University, located in Stafford, for their season opener.
Sam Vidlak threw five touchdown passes in the first quarter, leading Stephen F. Austin to a 77-0 victory over NAIA opponent North American University. Ten different players scored for the Lumberjacks in a dominant performance.
North American University, based in Stafford just outside of Houston, faced a tough challenge against SFA. The Lumberjacks gained 371 yards in the first quarter alone, with Vidlak completing all seven of his passes for 264 yards and five touchdowns.
The game was a one-sided affair from the start, with SFA scoring five times on their first 11 plays to take a commanding 42-0 lead after the first quarter.
In the second half, SFA continued to assert their dominance, with three quarterbacks combining for 383 yards and seven touchdowns. The Lumberjacks finished with a total yardage advantage of 675-40 and led 32-3 in first downs.
The game was not without delays, as the start was postponed due to lightning in the area. Despite the challenging conditions, SFA’s performance was impressive, reminiscent of their 2022 victory over Warner by a staggering 98-0 margin.
About North American University
North American University, located in Stafford, is home to a growing athletic program. Their football team, led by head coach and athletic director Kenneth Apanda, began in 2019 and has shown promising growth since. With an enrollment of around 1,000 students, NAU also fields teams in cross-country, soccer, track, and basketball.
According to Apanda, NAU’s move to Stafford in 2015 marked a new chapter in the school’s history. The program continues to expand and develop, offering opportunities for student-athletes to excel both on and off the field.
