Sharpstown International School in Houston Dealt with False Threat, Parents in Panic
Dozens of parents gathered outside Sharpstown International School in southwest Houston on Friday afternoon after rumors of a threat circulated, causing the school to be put on lockdown. However, the Houston Police Department confirmed that it was a false alarm.
The incident began when reports of a weapon at the school started spreading, leading to a state of panic among students and parents. HPD and HISD police quickly responded to the situation and after thorough investigation, they deemed it to be a hoax, confirming that no shooting had occurred and no weapon was found on the premises.
Despite the reassurance from authorities, worried parents still flocked to the school on Triola Lane near S. Gessner, hoping to be reunited with their children. Many had seen alarming posts on social media about a gun or shooting threat, prompting them to take immediate action to ensure the safety of their loved ones.
While some witnesses claimed to have seen someone being arrested, there has been no official confirmation from HPD or HISD regarding any arrests made in connection to the incident. Upon concluding that it was a false alarm, police urged parents to clear the area so the lockdown could be lifted.
HISD released a statement, assuring that students and staff were safe and that the reported threat was unsubstantiated. They explained that the lockdown was part of a security protocol and out of caution, a controlled dismissal of students would take place with the assistance of the campus team.
Following recent online threats against Texas schools, HISD announced increased patrols across district schools to ensure safety. While they haven’t confirmed any direct threats, the district takes all reports seriously and investigates each one thoroughly.
As the community continues to grapple with the aftermath of the false threat at Sharpstown International School, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and communication in ensuring the safety of students and staff.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
