Tragic news has shaken the Selma community as a beloved high school football player, Caden Tellier, passed away after sustaining a brain injury during a game against Southern Academy.

Michael McLendon, Executive Director of the Alabama Independent School Association, confirmed the devastating news, revealing that Caden Tellier, a 16-year-old junior at John T. Morgan Academy, suffered the fatal injury following a tackle in the third quarter of the game.

The family later released a statement through the Selma Times-Journal, announcing the heartbreaking loss of their son and expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers.

In a touching tribute, the Tellier family shared, “Our boy, Caden Tellier has met Jesus face to face. Lives will be saved through his passing as he graciously chose to donate his organs.”

Senator Tommy Tuberville also expressed his condolences, mourning the loss of Caden Tellier and offering prayers for his family and the Morgan Academy community.

In light of the tragedy, school activities have been suspended to allow for grieving and support, with pastors available on-campus to assist students through this difficult time.

Unfortunately, Tellier’s passing comes shortly after another tragic incident in Alabama, where 14-year-old Semaj Wilkins collapsed during football practice and later passed away.

Funeral arrangements for Caden Tellier are pending, and a GoFundMe has been set up to assist the family with final expenses.
