HOUSTON – Calling all movie lovers in Houston!
After a long wait, the iconic River Oaks Theater is finally back, and its first screening was almost sold out.

The historic theater will celebrate its grand reopening on Thursday, October 3, with a screening of “Joker: Folie à Deux.” Tickets for the 7 p.m. show were 99% sold out, and the 10:30 p.m. show was filling up quickly. Don’t worry if you miss the big day, there are still tickets available for late screenings of “In the Summers” and other movies.
River Oaks Theater announced on Facebook that it will open its doors to the public at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, and the first 800 guests will receive a free gold coin as a gesture of appreciation.

According to a Facebook post by River Oaks Theater, “In the early 20th century, movie theaters used to give the first guest who watched a film a gift of gold, a tradition believed to bring good luck and prosperity to the theater.”
