Recently, Rich Lowry, editor-in-chief of National Review, found himself in the midst of controversy regarding his comments on Haitian migrants. During an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, allegations surfaced that Lowry used a racial slur to describe these migrants. However, Lowry quickly clarified that it was simply a mispronunciation.

The discussion on the show also touched upon JD Vance’s debunked claim about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio. Kelly pointed out that Vance later admitted to fabricating the story, to which Lowry likened it to “alternative facts” famously used by Kellyanne Conway. He even humorously mentioned how only two residents had complained about migrants supposedly “taking geese from ponds.”

Lowry’s slip-up in pronunciation led to some confusion and backlash on social media, with some viewers interpreting it as a racial slur. However, Lowry clarified that he simply stumbled over the word and meant no harm. The response to his mistake was mixed, with some expressing understanding while others criticized his choice of words.

Interestingly, Megyn Kelly came to Lowry’s defense on social media, denouncing the criticism as “disgusting” and attributing it to a misunderstanding. Fox News contributor Andy McCarthy also supported Lowry, pointing out that it was a simple mix-up between “immigrants” and “migrants,” which Lowry corrected immediately.
