The Battleship Texas Embarks on its Next Chapter of Restoration

Exciting news for history buffs and naval enthusiasts – the iconic Battleship Texas is on the move once again! This time, it will be relocated from Pier D to Pier A at the Gulf Copper Dry Dock & Rig Repair as it begins the next phase of its restoration journey.

After returning to the water just six months ago, the Battleship Texas continues its transformation with extensive repairs and enhancements. The move will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with Pier 21 offering the best vantage point to witness the historic relocation.

Unfortunately, due to safety reasons, no spectator boats or pedestrians will be allowed at the site or in the water during the move. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! We’ll be live streaming views of the Battleship Texas throughout the event.

Since August 2022, the ship has undergone significant repairs and upgrades at the Gulf Copper Dry Dock & Rig Repair’s shipyard. This includes replacing over 700 tons of steel, painting the hull, performing quality control checks, and more. With almost 300,000 man-hours logged to date, the restoration efforts are truly a labor of love.
