MIAMI – The music world was shocked when rapper Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, pleaded not guilty to charges of defrauding multiple businesses of over $1 million. The duo entered their pleas during an arraignment hearing before Broward Circuit Judge Ernest Kollra.
Kingston, known by his real name Kisean Anderson, and his mother are facing charges of organized fraud and grand theft. This legal battle started when Kingston was arrested in Fort Irwin, California, after a SWAT team raided his home in Southwest Ranches, following a warrant issued by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The allegations state that Kingston, 34, and Turner, 61, are accused of defrauding various businesses including a jewelry store, luxury bed company, used luxury and exotic car dealership, and luxury microLED TV company since October 2023. Despite the serious charges, bond has been set at $90,000 and there were no changes made during the recent hearing.
This isn’t the end of their legal troubles, as Kingston and his mother are expected back in court on October 11 and are also facing related charges in federal court. Kingston rose to fame in 2007 with his hit “Beautiful Girls” at the young age of 17, which sampled the musical track of “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King.
