Renowned PBS correspondent, Judy Woodruff, issued an apology on Wednesday for statements she made on air regarding former President Donald Trump and negotiations for a cease-fire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

During PBS’ Democratic national convention coverage, Woodruff referenced a story from Axios and Reuters alleging that Trump had urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to delay peace talks until after the U.S. election to benefit Democrat Kamala Harris’ campaign.

However, Woodruff later clarified in a post on X that she was not aware of subsequent reports denying the story by the Trump campaign and Israel. She admitted that her comments were not based on original reporting.

Woodruff expressed, “This was a mistake, and I apologize for it.”

With a long and distinguished career in journalism, including stints at CNN and NBC News, Woodruff served as host of PBS’ “NewsHour” from 2013 to 2022 before stepping down for a reporting project.
