Inside the Lavish Wedding of Asia’s Richest Man’s Youngest Son
Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, concluded months of celebrations with a grand wedding reception for his youngest son in Mumbai. The wedding, which boasted a price tag running into the millions, marked the union of Anant Ambani and his longtime girlfriend, Radhika Merchant.
The couple was cheered on by friends and family at Mumbai’s Jio World Drive, a convention center owned by the Ambani family, as part of the “Mangal Utsav” celebration. This extravagant event has been dubbed the wedding of the year.
The marriage rituals began on Friday and were completed early Saturday, with Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant exchanging garlands and walking around the sacred fire.
The star-studded guest list included prominent figures like Boris Johnson, Tony Blair, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Priyanka Chopra, and Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, and Salman Khan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi blessed the couple at a reception hosted by the Ambani family, emphasizing the billionaire’s growing influence.
Mukesh Ambani stated, “This is the final and most auspicious ceremony and the last wedding in our family.” The exact cost of the festivities, which spanned several months, remains undisclosed.
The Ambani family hosted extravagant pre-wedding celebrations featuring performances by Rihanna and Akon, as well as a European cruise with on-deck concerts by the Backstreet Boys and Pitbull.
At 29, Anant Ambani oversees the conglomerate’s renewable energy sector and manages an animal rescue center in Gujarat state. His bride, Radhika Merchant, also 29, is the marketing director for her father’s pharmaceutical company.
Critics of Mukesh Ambani point to his company’s political connections over the years, both under previous governments and in the present day.
