Officer Shoots Shoplifting Suspect at Texas City Buc-ee’s

An off-duty officer took action in the parking lot of a Texas City Buc-ee’s late Friday night, resulting in a controversial shooting. Texas City Police Chief Landis Cravens revealed that the officer attempted to use a Taser on a suspect accused of shoplifting but eventually resorted to firing one shot.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. as the off-duty officer, a member of the Texas City Police Department, was working security at the store. When the officer intervened to stop a person allegedly stealing from the business, the suspect resisted, leading to a physical altercation.

Chief Cravens explained that after the suspect continued to resist despite a Taser being deployed, the officer made the decision to shoot the suspect once. The injured suspect was subsequently transported to UTMB-Galveston for treatment, with non-life-threatening injuries reported.

The involvement of the Texas Rangers and Galveston County District Attorney’s Office in investigating the incident demonstrates the seriousness of the situation. The community awaits further updates on the developing story.
