HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A heartbroken mother is speaking out after her daughter’s alleged killer was released from custody.
Arely Guzman expressed her distress over 19-year-old Francisco Ochoa’s bond reduction and his release without an ankle monitor.
Guzman fears for her safety now that Ochoa is out of custody.
Jocelyn Espinoza, 24, tragically lost her life on Sept. 15. Authorities revealed that she and Ochoa were dating, and he fatally shot her.
“She was always kind to everyone,” Guzman recalled of her daughter.
Guzman disclosed the abusive nature of her daughter’s relationship with Ochoa.
“She was prepared to end the relationship. I suspect that was the catalyst for his actions – losing control over her. Breaking away from such relationships can escalate the danger,” she noted.
According to court records, the couple had a heated dispute in a motel parking lot off the Beltway, captured on surveillance footage. Ochoa exited his vehicle, and Espinoza locked herself inside, after which he fired a fatal shot through the window she was by.
This week, Ochoa’s bond was reduced from $200,000 to $50,000, sparking outrage and disappointment in Guzman.
“It’s a slap in the face to my family. The lack of an ankle monitor is a source of frustration and distress,” Guzman expressed.
The family is deeply concerned about Ochoa’s release while they grieve the loss of their beloved family member.
“I seek justice for her. She deserves it,” Guzman emphasized.
Ochoa is scheduled to appear in court in December for further proceedings.
Espinoza’s family has set up a fundraiser for her funeral expenses. She leaves behind a 7-year-old daughter.
