The City of Uvalde Releases Additional Video Footage from Robb Elementary School Shooting

Uvalde, Texas – In a surprising turn of events, the city of Uvalde announced the discovery of additional bodycam and dashcam video footage from the tragic mass shooting at Robb Elementary School. This revelation comes after the city recently released withheld documents and video as part of a lawsuit brought by a coalition of news organizations.

Just days ago, the Uvalde Police Department claimed to have released all video footage related to the shooting that resulted in the deaths of 19 students and two teachers. However, it was later discovered that some footage had not been included in the initial release.

Chief Homer Delgado of the UPD was informed by an officer that there was missing bodycam footage. Following an audit of the department’s servers, several videos were uncovered, prompting the department to notify District Attorney Christina Mitchell for further review.

The city has pledged to comply with Judge Sid Harle’s order regarding the release of the new video footage. The media coalition, comprising various news organizations, including TEGNA stations, sued the city for access to crucial information that would provide insight into law enforcement actions on the day of the shooting. The city settled with the coalition, granting access to the requested information.

Chief Delgado, who took on the role almost two years after the tragic event, has initiated an internal affairs investigation to determine the oversight surrounding the missing footage. He emphasized the department’s commitment to transparency and vowed to implement new protocols to uphold the highest standards.

“In the spirit of our ongoing commitment to full transparency, I have ordered an immediate review of all footage collection and storage protocols within UPD and will institute a new process to ensure our department lives up to the highest standards. The Uvalde community and the public deserve nothing less,” stated Chief Delgado.

An audit of the department’s Information Technology Division has also been ordered to ensure the disclosure of any additional responsive records. The city of Uvalde continues to strive for transparency and accountability in the aftermath of this tragic event.
