Justice for Jocelyn: Two Men Indicted on Capital Murder Charges
Tragedy struck in Harris County when 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray was found dead on June 17. Now, justice is being sought as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has announced the indictment of two men on capital murder charges in connection with her death.
The accused individuals, Franklin Peña, 26, and Johan Martinez-Rangel, 22, are facing serious charges in this heartbreaking case.
Jocelyn’s mother revealed that her daughter had snuck out of their apartment the night before her body was discovered. It was a devastating loss for the family and the community, leading to an extensive investigation to uncover the truth behind Jocelyn’s untimely death.
According to Houston police, Jocelyn encountered Peña and Martinez-Rangel while walking on Kuhkendahl Road. The men reportedly approached her for directions before leading her to a nearby 7-Eleven store. However, things took a sinister turn as they allegedly convinced Jocelyn to accompany them to a bridge on West Rankin Road.
Tragically, it was at this location where the heinous crime took place. Authorities believe that Peña and Martinez-Rangel tied her up, removed her pants, and ultimately strangled her before disposing of her body in a north Houston creek.
Just three days after the discovery of Jocelyn’s remains, law enforcement took Peña and Martinez-Rangel into custody at the Canfield Lakes apartments on Northborough Drive. The swift action of authorities has hopefully brought some semblance of closure to Jocelyn’s grieving loved ones.
As the legal proceedings move forward, the hope for justice for Jocelyn remains steadfast. The memory of this young girl will not be forgotten, and the community stands united in seeking accountability for this senseless tragedy.
