Hello, readers! Today, we have an inspiring story to share about a well-known figure in Houston – Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale. Recently, Mack had a health scare that landed him in the hospital for three days, but true to his resilient nature, he was back to work at Gallery Furniture the next morning after being discharged from St. Luke’s Hospital.

Despite fighting a serious infection, Mack’s determination shines through. He is currently on antibiotics and other medications to combat the infection that has caused his left leg to become red and swollen. Even from a recliner at the showroom, with his leg iced and elevated, Mack continues to show his strength and positive attitude.

The diagnosis was cellulitis, an infection that can enter through a break in the skin, leading to swelling and pain. Mack recalls losing a toenail a few weeks prior, which was the starting point of the escalating swelling in his leg. Reflecting on the situation, he lamented not seeking medical attention sooner.

His condition took a turn for the worse when he experienced nausea, confusion, and disorientation, mistaking Saturday for Thursday. Thankfully, quick action from employees led to an ambulance being called, and Mack was promptly admitted to the hospital.

Despite the ordeal, Mack remained in good spirits, even interacting with well-wishers who reached out to him during his hospital stay. His doctor mentioned that his high temperature at admission likely contributed to his confusion, but Mack’s trademark energy and charm never wavered.

Known for his salesmanship, Mack couldn’t resist a sales pitch, even from the hospital recliner. When asked about his relentless drive, he simply laughed and acknowledged that selling was in his blood, a trait that defined his character.

As Mack continues his recovery journey, it’s evident that his spirit remains unbroken. His dedication to his work, his community, and his passion for life define him, reminding us all to never give up, even in the face of adversity.
