Breaking News: Guillermo Alex Castillo, wanted in the death of Joe Gerhart in 1998, has been arrested in Colombia after 25 years.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced that Castillo has been extradited to the U.S. and is now in custody at the Harris County Jail.

Castillo and his co-defendant Yordin Bolanos were accused of killing Joel Gerhart at a home in the Northglen area on August 27, 1998.

Bolanos was convicted of capital murder, while Castillo had cut his ankle monitor and fled to Colombia. He has now been charged with murder for the purpose of extradition.

The sheriff mentioned, “We are grateful for the efforts to find justice for Mr. Gerhart and want his friends and family to know that one of his accused killers is no longer a free man.”
