The Shocking Case of Emmitt Eugene Carter

Recent court documents have shed light on a disturbing case involving Emmitt Eugene Carter, a 38-year-old Lone Star College employee, who stands accused of a heinous crime. Carter was arrested on Friday, Aug. 16, for the alleged murder of his 6-month-old son, following an incident on July 8, 2023. The documents suggest that Carter is being accused of shaking and hitting his infant son with a blunt object, resulting in the tragic loss of the child’s life.

Emmitt Eugene Carter has been identified as an assistant dean of student success at the Lone Star College campus in Tomball and has been serving in this role for the past decade, according to court records.

During his first court appearance, Carter’s defense team requested that he be released on his own recognizance, arguing that the injuries sustained by the child were a result of Carter attempting chest compressions to help the infant breathe. They also insinuated that some of the child’s injuries may have been inflicted by the mother, who was out of town at the time of the incident.

Prosecutors, on the other hand, emphasized the careful consideration that went into making the arrest in this case, emphasizing the need for justice to prevail without rushing to judgment. Assistant District Attorney Edward Appelbaum stressed the importance of ensuring equal justice under the law, particularly in cases as sensitive as this, where a defenseless child is involved.

In a heartfelt defense, attorney Will Vaughn maintained Carter’s innocence, portraying the situation as a tragic accident rather than a criminal act. Vaughn expressed deep sorrow for Carter, who is currently facing accusations for a crime he claims he did not commit, instead of being able to grieve the loss of his child.
