Jay Park: From K-Pop Star to Entrepreneur
Korean American star Jay Park is known for many things, including being a rapper and R&B artist, as well as a garlic health drink enthusiast.
Park recently held a two-day fan meeting in Seoul, marking his return to the stage after a decade. During the event, Park not only performed his hit songs but also showcased his love for health drinks by preparing garlic health drinks on stage for lucky fans. The audience even waved garlic-shaped light sticks in support.
Hailing from Washington state, Park’s journey into the competitive South Korean pop industry began unexpectedly after auditioning for a K-pop talent show at the suggestion of his mother. Despite initial challenges, Park eventually debuted as a member of the band 2PM.
After parting ways with 2PM due to a misunderstanding that was later clarified, Park returned to the United States and re-debuted as a solo artist in 2010. Since then, he has become a prominent figure in the Asian entertainment industry, founding multiple music labels and venturing into entrepreneurship with his Korean liquor brand.
In a recent interview, Park discussed his long-anticipated fan meeting, being the first K-pop star to open an OnlyFans account, and his upcoming projects in K-pop management.
Q: How did you feel about reuniting with your fans after such a long time?
A: I was overwhelmed by the love and support from my fans. It was important for me to reconnect with them and show them the real me. I believe in authenticity and giving back to those who have supported me throughout my career.
Q: You have been quite open about your music and image. What motivates you to stay true to yourself?
A: I am who I am, and I don’t pretend to be someone else. I work with people I trust and create music that resonates with me. I don’t seek validation or fame; I focus on producing honest and meaningful art.
Q: Your decision to join OnlyFans garnered attention. Can you explain the reasoning behind it?
A: I used my platform on OnlyFans creatively to promote my music. It was a strategic move to generate buzz around my new songs. I believe in thinking outside the box and pushing boundaries in the industry.
Q: You have ventured into the liquor business with WONSOJU. What inspired you to start your own soju brand?
A: I wanted to showcase premium soju to the global market and change the misconception that soju is a low-quality alcohol. Just like fine whiskey or sake, there is a high-quality soju that deserves recognition.
Q: Any hints about your upcoming album release?
A: My new album is set to be released in October, and I can’t wait for my fans to hear it.
