Quantez Whiteside found himself back behind bars after a series of robberies in southwest Houston. This serial robber, who had only been out of prison for six months, pleaded guilty to three cellphone store robberies and received a lengthy sentence for his crimes.

Ironically, Whiteside’s downfall came when he inadvertently revealed his identity by providing his actual cellphone number to a clerk while pretending to be a customer, as revealed by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

“As this spree progressed, the robber got sloppy and left his cell number, which essentially served as breadcrumbs leading investigators right to him,” Hamdani said.

Whiteside’s erratic behavior led to his capture, and a federal judge sentenced him to 258 months in prison for his crimes in 2021. This sentencing included 72 months for robbery, 168 months for using a firearm during the crimes, and an additional 18 months for committing offenses while on parole.

“Evidently, previously serving two years in federal prison was not enough to deter him from committing these crimes. With today’s sentence, he will have ample opportunity to reflect on his actions and the detrimental impact they had on the victims,” Hamdani stated.

During his crime spree, Whiteside targeted three Metro by T-Mobile stores, threatening employees at gunpoint and stealing cellphones and cash. His downfall came when he left his phone number with a clerk, leading investigators to his home where they discovered the stolen items and firearms.
