The Impact of Mixon’s Injury on the Houston Texans
Joe Mixon, the starting running back for the Houston Texans, suffered a significant injury during last Sunday’s game against the Bears. Mixon described it as a hip-drop tackle, a move that has since been banned by the NFL.
Unfortunately, Mixon was unable to practice all week and did not travel with the team for their upcoming game against the Vikings in Minnesota. This leaves the Texans with a lack of depth at the running back position, as Dameon Pierce is also out with a hamstring injury.
As a result, Cam Akers is expected to start, with the possibility of British Brooks or Dare Ogunbowale stepping in as well.
Understanding the Hip-Drop Tackle
A hip-drop tackle occurs when a defender wraps up a ball carrier and rotates or swivels his hips, unweighting himself and dropping onto the ball carrier’s legs during the tackle. This dangerous move can result in serious injuries, as seen in Mixon’s case.
Despite the severity of the injury, no disciplinary action has been taken against Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards, who executed the tackle. The league is currently reviewing the incident.
