Houston ISD Campus Faces Heat-Related HVAC Issues

One Houston ISD campus, TH Rogers Elementary, was forced to close its doors on Wednesday as crews scrambled to repair a malfunctioning HVAC system. The school, located near San Felipe and Chimney Rock in the Galleria area, faced challenges due to the extreme heat conditions in Houston.

The district acknowledged the inconvenience caused to parents but emphasized that ensuring a safe and comfortable learning environment for students and staff was their top priority. With temperatures soaring and a feel-like temperature of up to 113 degrees, it was essential to address the cooling issues promptly.

Parents were anxiously awaiting an update by 4 p.m. to learn whether classes would resume the following day. This incident comes on the heels of other schools in the district reporting AC problems, raising concerns among parents and educators.

Harvard Elementary, another campus dealing with AC outages, saw makeshift solutions like portable cooling units and fans to combat the heat. Parents expressed worries about the impact of high temperatures on students’ ability to focus and learn effectively.

Despite efforts to address HVAC issues promptly, older systems in some classrooms posed challenges for the district. The safety and well-being of students remained a top priority, leading to temporary measures like relocating students to cooler areas within the schools.

As the community grapples with the recurring AC problems in schools, there is a growing call for long-term solutions to ensure a conducive learning environment for all students. Stay tuned for updates on how HISD plans to address these critical issues.
