Exciting News for Houston Police Cadets: Salary Increase to $52,000!

Breaking news in Houston as Mayor John Whitmire and Police Chief Noe Diaz announced a significant raise for police cadets. Effective immediately, Houston Police Department cadets will see a base salary increase from $42,000 to $52,000, plus additional incentives.

Members of Cadet Class #267 were thrilled to hear this news as Whitmire and Diaz emphasized the importance of this raise. In addition to the salary boost, HPD cadets will also receive a $5,000 one-time incentive for completing the academy and TCOLE Certification, bringing their total compensation to $57,000 in the first year.

Upon successful completion of the probationary period, officers will see their salary rise to $62,574. This move is aimed at improving recruitment and retention within the Houston Police Department, ensuring they can continue to serve the community effectively.

Mayor Whitmire expressed his gratitude for the dedication of the men and women in law enforcement, highlighting the risks they take daily to keep the community safe. He emphasized that this salary increase is just the beginning of efforts to attract more officers to HPD, stating, “We want you to become a Houston police officer.”
