Houston Independent School District Struggles to Recover after Severe Storm

Recently, the Houston Independent School District (HISD) faced a major challenge as a severe storm swept through the area, causing significant damage to many of its schools. According to reports, an “overwhelming majority” of HISD schools lost power during the storm, with around 70 of them still without power as of Friday morning. In addition, approximately 50 campuses had downed trees, while 60 campuses suffered from roof or structural damage.

HISD released a statement addressing the situation, stating, “We are working diligently to address these issues and ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff.” The district’s Facilities and IT teams have been working tirelessly to restore power and repair damages in time for summer school next week, with preparations also underway for the upcoming school year.

The resilience and dedication of the HISD community shine through in these challenging times. Despite the setbacks caused by the storm, the district remains focused on providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and staff. As they continue to recover and rebuild, the spirit of unity and determination prevails within HISD.
