The Greek Boxer Training in Houston Aiming for Boxing History
Andreas Katzourakis, a Greek boxer training in Houston, is on a mission to make boxing history. In a recent interview with KHOU 11’s Jason Bristol, Katzourakis shared his journey and aspirations while driving around town.
Katzourakis is determined to become the first Greek boxing world champion since 1941. He sees this accomplishment not only as a personal achievement but also as an opportunity to pave the way for Greek athletes and talent in the sport.
“By achieving that, you can open a pathway for Greek talent and Greek athletes,” he said. “But also to have some bigger (boxing) shows and bigger promotions back home.”
Currently holding a record of 13-0 with 10 knockouts, Katzourakis is set to face Robert Terry (13-0, 4 KOs) on August 30 in the semifinals of Overtime’s super welterweight tournament. The tournament features a grand prize of $100,000 and an “OTX promotional agreement” for the winner. The final matches will take place at OTE Arena in Atlanta.
Having trained under Ronnie Shields, who also works with current middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, Katzourakis feels confident in his abilities and chances of success.
“I don’t think the odds are stacked against me anymore,” Katzourakis said.
