Darren passed away in his sleep at a Los Angeles hospital, his son Jim Moret confirmed to news outlets.

His son further shared with The Hollywood Reporter that Darren was slated to undergo an aortic valve replacement but was deemed too weak for the surgery. “I always thought he would pull through,” his son expressed, “because he was so cool. He was always cool.”

In addition to his acting and singing career, Darren also found success as a television director, working on popular series like “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Melrose Place.” He was known for his role as Officer Jim Corrigan on the TV show “T.J. Hooker” in the 1980s.

However, Darren’s claim to fame with young audiences in the late 1950s was his portrayal of Moondoggie in the movie “Gidget,” where he starred alongside Sandra Dee. The film contributed to the rise of the surfing culture and influenced various aspects of pop culture.
