The Shocking Incident Involving Former Galveston Police Officer Jared Rivas

Jared Rivas, a former Galveston police officer, made headlines this summer after an incident at an apartment complex pool where he was working security off-duty. Reports suggest that Rivas allegedly assaulted a teenage boy attending a pool party, leading to his recent indictment on eight charges.

The Charges Against Rivas

Rivas is facing two counts of injury to a child, unlawful restraint of a child, official oppression, and four counts of assault causing bodily injury. The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the charges, shedding light on the severity of the incident that occurred at Island Bay Resorts on June 25.

The Incident Unfolded

According to the Galveston Police Department, Rivas was called to intervene at a pool party while working security off-duty. A witness captured a video showing Rivas in a heated altercation, punching a person on the ground, sparking further concern and prompting a 911 call reporting the incident.

Consequences for Rivas

Following an internal investigation, Police Chief Doug Balli expressed disappointment in Rivas’ actions, deeming them unreasonable and not in line with the department’s expectations. As a result, Rivas was placed on indefinite suspension and later terminated, signaling a firm stance against misconduct within the police force.

A Pledge for Accountability

Chief Balli acknowledged the impact of the incident on the community and vowed to regain their trust through transparency and adherence to department values. While the investigation continues, further disciplinary actions may be taken to ensure accountability and uphold the department’s standards.
