Welcome to the launch of a brand new Pride festival in southeast Texas! The Fort Bend County Pride Fest is set to take place at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds over a three-day event, celebrating culture, diversity, and love. This festival is a historic moment for the county as it marks the first Pride festival in its 187-year history.
Hunny Phillips, the president and founder of Fort Bend County Pride, expressed her excitement saying, “We are fully funded, and everything’s just been working out so I know that this is my purpose.” Phillips has been preparing for over a year and has gathered over 60 vendors for the event.
Phillips also shared her inspiration for organizing the festival, stating, “I thought my wife and I were the only gay ones. I felt like we needed representation out here.” The event has garnered support from allies and community members as they strive to create a more inclusive environment in the county.
Earlier this year, the office of Fort Bend County Judge KP George launched the ‘Queer Alliance Committee’ to support LGBTQ+ initiatives, showing a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the county. Nadia Hakim, the communications director for Fort Bend County, highlighted the importance of representation in suburban and rural areas for LGBTQ+ individuals.
The festival will kick off with a Mixer on Friday night at the Missouri City Library, followed by a community conversation on Saturday at The Pink Macaron in Rosenberg. The main event, the Fort Bend County Pride Festival, will take place on Sunday at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds with free admission for all.
