The Collins 8 Foundation: Turning Tragedy into Scholarships

In 2022, a local Houston-area family faced a tragedy that took the lives of five loved ones. Despite the immense pain and grief, the family is now striving to keep their memory alive by providing scholarships for youth who have experienced similar tragedies.

On August 8, known as Collins 8 Day, the family came together to launch their initiative. The event took place at Tomball High School, where they shared their story and mission with the community.

One of the victims, Waylon Collins, was remembered as a beloved member of the Tomball baseball team, known for his laughter and humility. Along with Waylon, his two younger brothers, cousin, and grandfather were tragically killed in the 2022 incident.

In honor of their lost loved ones, the Collins family established the Collins 8 Foundation, named after Waylon’s jersey number. Through this foundation, they aim to provide scholarships to support young individuals who are navigating similar hardships.

Despite their own grief, the family is committed to turning their pain into kindness for others. “Seeing your kids reach their dream is special,” said Misti Collins, the mother of the three boys who were lost. “Love will always defeat evil – that is the bottom line.”

The goal of the Collins 8 Foundation is to raise $8,888 for their scholarship fund. To learn more about their cause and contribute to their mission, visit their website here.
