Erica Shelwyn Lee Carter Considers Running for Mother’s Congressional Seat
As Texas gears up for a special election to fill the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s term, her daughter, Erica Shelwyn Lee Carter, is contemplating entering the political arena herself. Encouraged by community leaders and Democratic supporters, Lee Carter is considering a run in the historic 18th Congressional District.
The special election, scheduled for Nov. 5, will fill the seat left vacant after Jackson Lee’s passing on July 19. Lee Carter would complete the remainder of the 118th Congress term that ends on Jan. 3, 2025. Though she has not expressed interest in running for the permanent seat that extends beyond that term, the possibility remains open.
Deeply inspired by her mother’s legacy, Lee Carter has a strong background in advocating for children’s welfare. She has served in various governmental and non-profit roles, including as a Trustee for the Harris County Department of Education School Board. Currently, she works in Commissioner Rodney Ellis’ Policy Division in Harris County Precinct One.
With her decision on running expected next week, Lee Carter is poised to continue her family’s tradition of public service and make a lasting impact on the community.
