Step into the exciting world of school volleyball as the Willowridge High School varsity girls’ team gears up for a challenging new season. Despite flying under the radar following a tough finish last year, seniors Tarah Batiste and Laila Morrison have big plans to rewrite the Willowridge narrative.
Coach Olumoko describes Tarah Batiste as the team’s powerful middle blocker and outside hitter who led the team in blocks last season. Laila Morrison, a dynamic lefty with impressive jumping skills, serves as the team captain and has exceptional hands.
These two seniors, who have been playing together since their middle school days, form the core of the Eagles’ roster. Their hard work, dedication, and chemistry have set them apart, making them stand out players on and off the court.
Standing tall at 5-foot-11, Tarah Batiste dominates the net as the formidable middle blocker for the Eagles. Her volleyball journey began in 5th grade when her coach recognized her potential. Under the mentorship of Coach Georgia Olumoko, Batiste’s skills soared, earning her accolades like Second Team All-District 20-5A and Defensive Player of the Year.
Laila Morrison, the team captain and setter at 5-foot-4, drew inspiration from her sister’s volleyball prowess. Her leadership on and off the court, coupled with academic excellence, sets her apart as a role model for the team.
Both Batiste and Morrison, two-year varsity lettermen, draw motivation from star University of Texas players to enhance their own gameplay. Batiste admires Asjia O’Neal, while Morrison looks up to Ella Swindle for their exceptional skills and leadership on the court.
Despite their achievements, Batiste and Morrison are yet to commit to a college program, seeking a perfect balance of academics and competitive volleyball atmosphere.
With their wealth of experience and dedication, Batiste and Morrison lead the charge for the Willowridge Eagles, inspiring younger athletes with their teamwork and resilience.
