In Memory of Deputy Fernando Esqueda: A Hero Remembered
The tragic loss of Harris County Sheriff’s deputy Fernando Esqueda has left a community in mourning. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described him as a dedicated officer who was committed to protecting and serving the residents of Harris County. Deputy Esqueda’s bravery and sacrifice will always be remembered.
Deputy Fernando Esqueda, aged 29, was killed in what Sheriff Gonzalez described as a cruel ambush while he was on duty, searching for a man accused of attacking a pizza store employee. The loss of such a young and devoted officer has deeply affected his family, friends, and colleagues.
Sheriff Gonzalez announced the details of Deputy Esqueda’s public funeral, scheduled for Friday, July 19. A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a rosary from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The funeral mass will take place on Friday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
Deputy Esqueda had served with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for five years and was a member of the Violent Person Task Force. This dedicated team works tirelessly to apprehend dangerous criminals, including child rapists and violent offenders.
Arrest Made in Esqueda’s Killing
After a massive manhunt, a suspect, Ronnie Palmer, was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection to Deputy Esqueda’s death. The tragic chain of events began with an aggravated assault at a local pizza store, where an employee was attacked by a dissatisfied customer.
Deputies responded promptly to the call and began searching for the suspect vehicle. Deputy Esqueda, while on duty, discovered the vehicle but was ambushed before he could call for backup. His bravery and dedication to duty are commendable, and his loss is deeply felt by the entire community.
