Welcome to Our Blog: The Copper Thief Strikes Again
Just a few days after a bizarre tree theft case, a similar suspect struck again, this time targeting a north Harris County family’s sprinkler system. The homeowner reported that the thief specifically went after the copper top, known as the bell housing, which is essential for the sprinkler system to function.
The Bennett family, who had recently moved into their home, expressed shock at the brazen act of theft. Terrell Bennett, who works in landscaping, highlighted the precision and knowledge required to carry out such a crime in a matter of seconds.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect attempting to disable security cameras before stealing the bell housing from both the Bennett’s property and their neighbor’s. This incident, along with a recent tree theft in the area, has raised concerns about a possible ring of thieves targeting landscaping items.
Despite the setback, Bennett remains hopeful that insurance will cover the damages and advises other homeowners to bolster their security measures. He emphasized the importance of maintaining working cameras and staying alert to any suspicious activities in the neighborhood.
The Harris County Sheriff’s office is investigating the case and urging residents to report any unusual behavior. If you witness any suspicious activity, do not hesitate to contact 911 or the Harris County Burglary and Theft hotline at 713-274-9200.
Stay informed and stay vigilant to protect your property from opportunistic thieves like the copper thief who struck in north Harris County.
