Authorities have made a chilling discovery during the search for missing Missouri City resident Karen Miles – skeletal remains have been found, further deepening the mystery surrounding her disappearance.
Karen Miles, a beloved mother and active member of her community, was last seen at her apartment in the Missouri City/Harris County area on August 21. Concern grew after she failed to show up for work the following day.
The search took a surprising turn when Pearland police used license plate tracking cameras to locate Miles’ car, bearing stolen Arkansas plates, in the parking lot of an H-E-B in the Pearland Business Center. The driver, Davante Clark, was apprehended, but Miles was nowhere to be found. However, authorities have not connected Clark to her disappearance.
Karen Miles was deeply involved in community service, holding positions on the Black Heritage Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo while also working in human resources. Her children, Janice Bond and John Miles, spoke highly of her dedication to helping others, with John mentioning her plans to establish a nonprofit for veterans’ housing.
Detective Derrick Spencer of the Missouri City Police Department has labeled Clark as a person of interest in the case, believing he may possess crucial information. With no apparent link between Clark and Miles, authorities are actively investigating the situation.
Friends of Karen Miles began to worry when she suddenly stopped posting on social media, with one friend, Wendy Lewis Armstrong, expressing concern after her calls went unanswered.
Police tip led investigators to remains
A police tip on Tuesday led investigators to the 16000 block of Blue Ridge Road, where skeletal remains were discovered in a heavily wooded area.
The Fort Bend County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on the remains to confirm the identity.
The Missouri City Police Department is assuring the community of a thorough and fair investigation into the matter.
