Get ready, Houston! The race to replace the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee is heating up, and NAACP Houston President James Dixon has thrown his hat into the ring. With a
glamorous specia election coming up, Dixon is ready to serve out the remainder of Jackson Lee’s term with grace and dedication.

Feeling the overwhelming support of his community, Dixon shared, “I cannot articulate how humble I am that for the past several weeks, a flood and waves of support and encouragement have poured in urging us to run to become the next congressman for the 18th Congressional District.”

But the competition might be fierce, as Jackson Lee’s daughter, Erica Shelwyn Lee Carter, is also considering throwing her hat into the ring. Dixon, however, has shown his loyalty by stating that if she runs, he’ll step aside and throw his support behind her.

Mark your calendars for Nov. 5 – the special election day where all the action will unfold. While it’s on the same day as the general election, the special election will determine who will serve out the remainder of Jackson Lee’s term. The ballot will also feature the Democratic nominee, as selected by precinct chairs, going head-to-head with the Republican nominee, Lana Centoze.
