Experience the Majestic Big Boy Steam Locomotive in Houston

Get ready, Houston! The world’s largest operating steam locomotive, Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, is set to roll through the Bayou City in October. This iconic piece of railroad history will be making a stop in Houston on Oct. 6 through Oct. 7.

Big Boy will kick off its visit with a private event for Union Pacific employees on Oct. 5. The following day, Oct. 6, the locomotive will be on public display at Houston Amtrak located at 902 Washington Ave from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free for all visitors. Don’t miss your chance to see this historic train up close before it departs for Bryan, Texas on Oct. 7 at 9 a.m.

Big Boy No. 4014 is not only the largest steam locomotive in operation, but it is also one of the few remaining from its original fleet. This 132-foot-long, 1.2-million-pound locomotive has a water capacity of 25,000 gallons and a rich history of service with Union Pacific from 1941 to 1961. After years of being displayed at the RailGiants Museum in California, Union Pacific re-acquired and restored the locomotive in 2013.
