The Wait Continues: President Joe Biden Postpones Keynote Address at LBJ Presidential Library
President Joe Biden’s highly anticipated trip to Austin, Texas, has been postponed, the White House announced on Sunday. The postponement comes in the wake of an unfortunate incident where former President Donald Trump was injured in an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, leaving one person dead and two others critically injured.
Biden was set to deliver a keynote address at the LBJ Presidential Library to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. The event, which included a one-on-one interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt and a fundraiser hosted by Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of President Lyndon B. Johnson, was eagerly awaited by attendees.
However, the LBJ Library has assured that the event will take place later this month, with a new date set to be announced soon. Mark K. Updegrove, the president and CEO of the LBJ Foundation, expressed gratitude for President Biden’s commitment to marking the historic anniversary despite the schedule change.
In the midst of the unfolding events, Biden addressed the nation, expressing relief that Trump was reportedly in stable condition. He condemned the violence, stating, “There is no place in America for this kind of violence. It is sick… We cannot condone this.”
As a result of the incident, the president’s campaign announced an immediate pause in all communications and the removal of television ads. The visit to Austin was part of a series of events planned in the lead-up to the upcoming presidential election in November.
