Legendary bass guitarist Herbie Flowers, known for his collaborations with iconic artists such as David Bowie, Elton John, and Lou Reed, has passed away at the age of 86. His family confirmed the news on Facebook.
Flowers was a key member of Blue Mink and later joined T Rex, gaining recognition for his signature bassline on Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wild Side.” His impressive career also included contributing to hits like Bowie’s “Space Oddity” and Paul McCartney’s “Give My Regards To Broad Street.”
Bowie’s estate paid tribute to Flowers, acknowledging his extensive musical contributions over the years. They described him as not only a talented musician but also a kind-hearted and humorous individual who will be deeply missed.
Tim Burgess of The Charlatans praised Flowers on social media, stating that he had the ability to elevate the performances of already legendary artists. Flowers also founded the instrumental rock band Sky in the late ’70s, releasing several successful albums.
