Jose Altuve Hit by Pitch, Forced out of Game Against Twins

On Friday night, the game between the Houston Astros and the Minnesota Twins took a turn when Astros’ second baseman, Jose Altuve, was hit by a pitch in the top of the eighth inning. It was Twins relief pitcher Josh Winder’s first appearance of the season, and his first pitch to Altuve resulted in the All-Star getting hit in the hand by a 94 mph sinker.

Altuve immediately fell to the ground in pain and had to leave the game. He had two hits and an RBI before the injury occurred. Mauricio Dubón took over at second base for Altuve as the Astros continued to play without their star player.

Last season, Altuve missed 43 games due to a similar injury after being hit by a pitch during the World Baseball Classic, which resulted in a broken thumb.

Despite Altuve’s departure, the Astros managed to score three runs in the inning, extending their lead over the Twins to 10-5. The game continued without Altuve, but his absence was felt by both teams.
